If you do not require the supervisor, then installing HA Container may be a better option and will allow you full control over the OS to install additional software and Docker containers. If you do not understand what this means, or that making almost any changes to the underlying OS may render your install Unsupported/Unhealthy, this installation method is not for you and you should install HA OS. If you choose at anytime to install additional software to the Debian operating system, your installation may become officially unsupported. Using Debian 11 and following a strict set of guidelines available HERE will give you an officially supported installation of Home Assistant Supervised.
DO NOT post in this thread about your OS not being supported, you must run Debian. If you are new to Home Assistant and/or Linux, then this installation type is most likely not for you and you should choose to run Home Assistant OS on your machine.Ī PR has now been merged into the Supervised installer that will block any attempt at installation on an OS that is not supported, such as Ubuntu. It is being made increasing difficult to run a Supervised installation, by choosing to do so you understand the guidelines linked in the next paragraph.

What am I supposed to do next? Ditch Debian and choose Ubuntu which HP brags about being a certified OS for their laptops? What's going on here? I go to a new office tomorrow, having hoped that I have a running installation, now it's midnight on Sunday and I have this mess. I have even given up trying to customise anything, I'm going with the use defaults for partitioning, with the defaults for the desktop manager. The failing step is: Select and install software You can try to run the failing item again from the menu, or skip it and choose something else. At 1360 or so of 1369 files, the installer suddenly aborts and shows me this wonderful and informative message: Now the process grinds to a halt, and the installer begins to estimate the remaining time alternatingly at 4 1/2 minutes or 2 1/2 days. The first 1300 of the 1369 files are "retrieved" within a minute or two. First of all, it finds not just the Ethernet but also the WLAN. I use the 4 GB firmware-11.1.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso - totally easy to find on the website /sarcasm. Only to break at 1300-something of 1369 files. Downloading the packages took 4 hours (!!!). The laptop is connected to DSL Internet via Ethernet. I have created a huge (900 GB) empty space on the SSD, disabled fast-boot, changed to boot order to start from USB, and tried first the 400 MB netinst image. I have spend the half of my Sunday trying to install Debian 11 on a new HP Zbook, which is preconfigured with Windows 10.
